Usually you will look at a diorama or a model railway layout from the bird's eye view - an aspect you should take into consideration when planning your project. You want to build your
own miniature village? So first check some real air photographs of the original or at least similar villages and find out how buildings, streets and places are arranged in
reality.
You will find aerial views of almost every spot on our planet on
maps.google.com (requires fast internet access). Most of the pictures provided are really breathtakingly detailed but high resolution is not (yet)
available everywhere.
